Leave Bath for the town of Stratford-upon-Avon
Following breakfast we leave the City of Bath and journey through the Cotswolds countryside. The Cotswolds are well-known for their gentle hillsides (‘wolds’), sleepy villages and for being so ‘typically English’. The local honey-colored limestone, used for everything from the stone floors in the houses to the tiles on the roof, has ensured that the area has a magical uniformity of architecture. Our first stop on our journey will be in Castle Combe, often rated the ‘prettiest village in England’.
Next we’ll stop at Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed Baroque manor house. During the tour we’ll explore this famous Palace, seeing the highlights of the State Rooms, including the Marlborough Tapestries and Long Library, and delight in the gardens such as the formal Water Terraces.
Following our visit to the Palace we’ll stop in Bourton-on-the-Water for lunch on your own. Known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ there is plenty to see and do with a wealth of attractions, shops, restaurants and tea rooms.
We’ll end the day with our arrival in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. After checking into our hotel at the Crowne Plaza Hotel the evening is yours.
Breakfast Included
Following breakfast, we’ll board our coach for the short drive to Warwick Castle. A medieval castle developed from a wooden fort and originally built by William the Conqueror during 1068. Discover over 1,100 years of history, see extraordinary events and live shows, explore the stunning grounds and gardens rich in history.
Upon our return from Warwick the afternoon is yours free in Stratford-upon-Avon. Perhaps visit the house where William Shakespeare was born and grew up; explore the thatched cottage where Shakespeare’s wife, Anne Hathaway, lived; visit the MAD Museum; stop by the Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare is buried. There is no shortage of things to do in this historic market town.
